Your mind is the control center for your body and your life. Dr. Kurt Bravata explains how to reclaim it from digital manipulation and negative influences.

Take Back Your Mind: Protecting Your Mental Freedom

In Live Free or Diet, Dr. Kurt Bravata opens Chapter 10 with a statement that cuts right to the heart of modern life: "Your mind is the control center for your body and the decision-maker for your life."

That's not a metaphor. It's a medical reality — and it's under attack.

Your Brain Is a Supercomputer Being Reprogrammed

Dr. Bravata writes: "Our brains are essentially organic, self-replicating supercomputers, and every bit of input we allow to be downloaded through our eyes and ears is like code with the potential to rewrite our programming. Negative input results in negative output."

Think about that the next time you mindlessly scroll through social media. Every image, every video, every headline is code being written into your subconscious. The question is: who's doing the programming — you, or someone else?

The TikTok Effect: Engineered Overstimulation

As Dr. Bravata explains in Live Free or Diet:

"Now with TikTok, YouTube shorts, and other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X, we are programmed to habitually scroll through numerous images and videos in short bursts. This has an enormous effect on our psyches, the consequences of which the average viewer is often not aware of."

The rapid-fire scroll isn't accidental. It's engineered to exploit the brain's reward system.

How to Reclaim Your Mind

Dr. Bravata writes: "We can take back control of our minds by being more careful about how we spend our time online or simply turning off the screens and unplugging. It's as easy as that."

  1. Limit screen time intentionally
  2. Curate your inputs — unfollow accounts that generate anxiety
  3. Create screen-free windows, especially morning and before bed
  4. Read physical books
  5. Spend time in silence
  6. Pray and meditate

As Romans 12:2 (NKJV) says: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
